For standard cars, yes. Four inches over a properly compacted sub-base is the residential standard. If heavier vehicles will park on it, like a work truck or RV, go to 5 or 6 inches. Thickness only works with a good sub-base under it, though; a thick slab on soft ground still cracks.
A properly built concrete driveway commonly lasts 25 to 30 years or more in Staten Island. The ones that fail early almost always skipped the sub-base, the reinforcement, or the control joints, not the concrete itself.
They trade off. Asphalt is cheaper up front and faster to install, but it needs resealing every few years and softens in summer heat.
